GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Capital Markets Risk Analyst II will be a member of the Capital Markets Risk Management Team that is responsible for the management of market and credit risk related to Fifth Third's Capital Markets activities. These activities include the Financial Risk Management (FRM) business that provides foreign exchange, commodity, and interest rate derivatives to corporate clients. The team is responsible for implementation of key regulatory rules and guidance, including market and credit risk measurement calculations, stress scenario setup and analysis, statistical model development and testing, and reporting those outcomes to senior management and key business partners.

The Capital Markets Risk Analyst II will manage existing processes to prepare regular reporting with a reasonable amount of independence and will participate in identifying and resolving problems but will refer more complex problems to supervisors and subject matter experts. This role also requires the ability to gain and retain working knowledge of Fifth Third Bank's systems and knowledge of how those systems interact with each other. The ongoing business evolution within Capital Markets requires the ability to leverage tools like Excel/VBA, R, Python, etc., to meet the reporting demands of Senior Management in a timely manner. The position requires collaboration with the Capital Markets and Commercial lines of businesses and related Credit Risk Management, Model Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, IT, and Operations staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working under the guidance of more senior team members and a manager, assist in managing the market and credit risk oversight process and reporting for the FRM businesses (FX, Commodities, and Interest Rates).
  • Prepare reports and analysis for management's daily consumption as well as monthly or quarterly governance meetings.
  • Become familiar with derivative products and markets, and market and credit risk framework around it, including the required calculations, and reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Take ownership of workflow and process change, while being accountable for consistent quality control, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements for reporting processes under ownership.
  • Maintain/enhance documentation of policies and procedures and assist in the documentation of relevant technical items.
  • Interact with sales and trading personnel to obtain market intelligence as well as support areas including Accounting, IT, Compliance, and Business Controls.
  • Participate in projects to support business expansion activities and system enhancements/upgrades.
  • Work on ad hoc risk analysis, stress testing, assignments, and testing as needed.
  • Work with the Audit and Model Validation teams and external validators to assist with related exams.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred) in quantitative analytics, economics, finance, accounting, engineering, mathematics, or other finance or risk-related field.
  • Minimum of two to four years of work experience; a graduate degree may replace some work experience. Experience in banking, finance, or capital markets, especially FX, commodities, or interest rates, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and initiative to learn, develop skills, seek feedback, and improve existing processes and reporting to add value for management.
  • Problem solver with willingness to take ownership, identify issues, troubleshoot, and debug, and develop and implement creative, functional solutions in an agile manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex issues and develop meaningful analyses and share recommendations in clear, effective fashion to senior management and other business partners.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and MS Office suite. Possess programming abilities using tools like VBA, Python, or similar.
  • Exposure to financial pricing and risk systems with hands on experience in resolving day to day issues is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with derivatives and related risk analytics is desirable.
  • A path to achieving FRM, CFA, or equivalent professional designation a plus.
