Texas Capital is looking for a Risk and Controls Operations Team Lead to join the First Line of Defense (1LOD) Business Controls Office. The Risk and Controls Operations Team Lead will be directly responsible for maintaining the enterprise-wide operational risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) program while coordinating with the LOBs and other subject matter experts.
This team is in a build-out mode. This is a brand-new team where you’d be able to come in day 1 and drive change.
Control Office
The Control Office within Texas Capital’s 1LOD is responsible for delivering a more consistent approach to business operations across the company, strengthening the company’s risk and control infrastructure, and delivering effective and efficient enterprise services to employees and customers.
The Control Office is a centralized team within the 1LOD that is jointly responsible for delivery of a more consistent approach to business operations across Texas Capital.Â
This role will be responsible for supporting the Investment Bank division, Corporate Banking division and the Private Wealth division.
The Control Office will also work cross-functionally with several teams within Texas Capital dedicated to strengthening the company’s risk and control infrastructure including but not limited to Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk, Legal, and Compliance.
Role Responsibilities:
- Maintain the operational RCSA process across 1LOD.
- Provide ongoing support for the risk assessment methodology, design and provide risk reports, and communication to LOB stakeholders throughout the Bank.
- Provide guidance to LOBs and other stakeholders on RCSA practices.
- Remain knowledgeable about the operational risks in the functional areas across the bank, including areas of cross organizational risk.
- Support LOBs in assessing operational risks and controls.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret operational risk management data at a macro level.
- Facilitate meetings with various LOBs and the risk organization to review and challenge the RCSA.
- Manage testing of controls including preparation of test scripts, gathering of evidence, reviewing evidence and test results and opening of issues.
- Partner with LOBs to track and remediate issues that are identified during testing.
- Act as a SME to review and advise on procedures.
- Document and maintain process flows and mapping of the controls.
- Manage various resources to ensure delivery of required RCSA’s, process flows, procedures, testing and issues.
- Assist in the development of reports on risk results for the integrated risk reports and other reporting needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
RCSA are completed by the 1LOD by mapping core business processes and using them to identify the significant risks. The level of inherent risks is assessed, and associated controls are identified, assessed, and tested to determine whether the risks are appropriately managed. The process often involves facilitated workshops run by the Business Control Office. The facilitator must be able to keep the discussion and analysis appropriately focused on risk identification and guide the participants in assessing the identified risks.
Team Leadership
- Ensure ongoing mentoring, training and development across the team.
- Set and deliver against tactical priorities that align with business objectives.
- Drive a collaborative culture with all other functional areas that Business Control Office interfaces with, including operations, risk, audit, sales partners, LOB executives, technical teams, and other areas.
Required Qualifications
- BA or BS degree plus 3-5 years in operational risk management or related role.
- Requires a strong understanding of Investment banking risk techniques.
- Ability to analyze risk trends at a macro level, identifying signs of changing risk levels and/or symptoms of process control breakdowns.
- Must be comfortable in providing leadership and guidance on risk management to senior level managers.
- Solid understanding of financial institution processes, products, and risks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong skills in:
