Make an impact at Goodwin, where we partner with our clients to practice law with integrity, ingenuity, agility and ambition. We are in the business of building authentic, long-term relationships with our clients, who are some of the world’s most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, and where they converge. Our immersive understanding of these industries – combined with our expertise across high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions – sets us apart. Our Global Operations Team – all business professionals of the firm – was named the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer.

The role is to assist the General Counsel’s office of a leading Am Law 50 and Global 50 law firm, with offices across the United States, Europe, and Asia, in the provision of risk-related advice to, and the management of compliance matters for, its offices in Europe and Asia, with a primary focus on the UK, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

What You Will Do:-

  • Regulatory Management: Assist with managing Solicitors Regulation Authority records, including the annual bulk renewal of practising certificates, and maintaining general corporate records.
  • Legal Research and Guidance: Research and provide guidance on legal and regulatory issues affecting the firm and its personnel. This includes professional rules and codes of conduct, ongoing professional competence, engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines, conflicts and confidential information, financial crime (e.g., bribery, tax evasion, sanctions, fraud, money laundering, and market abuse), modern slavery, disclosure regimes, and data privacy.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the production and updating of internal and external written policies, procedures, and guidance on legal and regulatory issues affecting the firm.
  • Project Work and Audits: Support project work and annual audits, including those related to data privacy, modern slavery (within the firm and its supply chain), diversity reporting, ESG, and professional continuing competence.
  • Vendor Contract Review: Assist with the vendor contract review process.
  • Training Development: Help develop and deliver risk and compliance training to secretaries, trainees, and new associates.

Who You Are:-

  • Experience: 0-5 years’ post qualified experience as a lawyer.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: A good understanding, or the ability to quickly gain an understanding, of the legal and regulatory regimes in Europe and Asia, particularly the UK, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Familiarity with the types of work undertaken by the firm and its various support functions.
  • Team Player: Works well as part of a team, is flexible, and willing to contribute where needed.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous risk and compliance experience is advantageous but not essential.
