Risk Management Coordinator

Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Risk Management Coordinator to join our Mining team. The coordinator will be responsible for the application of the client's risk management program through the various stages of a project to meet both regulatory and client requirements. The program aims to identify risks early in the project, eliminate risks where practicable and establish effective mitigation measures.
The Risk Management Coordinator takes the lead in reviewing the client's risk management program and preparing an action plan to execute the various requirements of their program. The coordinator supports project management and discipline leads in risk matters and facilitates conversations with the project stakeholders to develop in-depth risk management plans. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the project scope.
Engineering Risk Management
Risk can be defined as exposure to adverse events or outcomes and is an inherent aspect of business. As such, Engineering Risk Management on Stantec projects is a core function that supports the achievement of both business and project objectives proactively throughout all project stages, including prefeasibility, feasibility, design, detailed engineering, execution, and commissioning.
Stantec offers a full array of Engineering Risk Management services, with the goal of minimizing harm to people, assets, and the environment. Risk Management maximizes safety and quality, while minimizing project schedule and cost.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Work with project teams to determine and plan the overall risk management strategy for projects.
- Review client risk management programs.
- Prepare risk management plans for individual clients and projects.
- Champion risk management and promote hazard awareness.
- Review technical documents to become familiar with project activities and installations.
- Prepare, pre-populate, and facilitate risk workshops with client and project teams in person and in remote settings.
- Create and maintain risk logs for individual projects.
- Prepare and conduct regular project risk updates.
- Establish functional safety program to support mining projects.
- Assist discipline engineering team with risk mitigation and functional safety activities, using hierarchy of controls and prevention through design (PtD) principles.
- Support project proposal development related risk management and functional safety activities.
- Listen to and take appropriate action on client's expressed concerns and observations.
- Provide open and honest communications to client representatives regarding risk management.
- Research and answer questions of a risk nature. Assist in the interpretation of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Develop an understanding of project scope and risk requirements as they pertain to assigned area of responsibility.
- Communicate with the project team regarding risk issues and client concerns.
- Monitor and manage the costs of third-party risk and functional safety consultants. Confirm the work is billed appropriately.
- Organize and manage risk and functional safety records and store per project document management procedures.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Self-starter with organizational, managerial, and leadership skills.
- Excellent skills for leading risk management strategies and facilitating risk workshops for engineering consulting projects.
- Strong health, safety, environment, and community (HSSE) cultural awareness.
- Excellent knowledge of and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations.
- Thorough preparation and strong facilitation of various types of qualitative risk workshops, including process hazard reviews (PHRs), hazards and operability reviews (HAZOPs), constructability reviews, bowtie analysis, and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis.
- This position could require travel 10%.
- Valid Driver's license
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or technical college degree plus 10 years of experience in a related engineering field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in risk management processes with a focus on developing plans and facilitating client processes for engineering consulting projects.
- Site experience in heavy industry or construction, particularly in underground mining, is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand technical documents, including 2D drawings, 3D models, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Sphera PHA-Pro software is advantageous.
