Job Description

Want to help us help others? We’re hiring!

GoFundMe’s mission is to help people help each other by making it safe and easy for people to ask for help and support the causes they care about. Since 2010, GoFundMe has become a trusted leader in online fundraising, with $17 billion raised from over 200 million donations. In 2022, GoFundMe acquired Classy, the leading nonprofit fundraising software company, which operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of GoFundMe. Together, the two companies serve as a global leader in giving for individuals and nonprofits, accelerating growth and unlocking new opportunities to help more people and organizations. Our vision is to become the most helpful place in the world—join us!

Trust is an integral part of GoFundMe's business. It drives growth, builds and nurtures our brand, and ensures that we always do the right thing by our customers. The Risk & Compliance team is at the front line of GoFundMe’s efforts to protect donors, fundraiser organizers, beneficiaries, and our company from financial crimes and abuse. As a member of the Risk team, you will be responsible for analyzing fundraisers  for fraud and money laundering schemes, verifying identities and KYC information, and enforcing compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This is an incredibly rewarding job where you are required to operate at an impeccable level of consistency while mastering new techniques and technologies to ensure GoFundMe remains a safe place to give online.

The Job…

  • Be a trusted partner who applies effective, consistent, and unbiased risk management, adhering to compliance obligations, driven by a deep understanding of GoFundMe’s business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the Risk Monitoring team by setting aggressive yet attainable goals, monitoring Analyst performance, and ensuring quality work.
  • Constantly improve, monitor, and track loss reporting, finding the root-cause for potential and actualized losses, and implementing compensating controls for those losses.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve workflows around donation review, account review, and dispute prevention to mitigate payer and merchant fraud on the platform, to optimize chargeback rates, and to minimize losses across the GoFundMe Group.
  • Lead risk reviews on organizations hosted by the Classy platform to determine the risk exposure that the organization may present, including assessing an organization’s credit risk and ability to meet their obligations.
  • Develop and refine risk mitigation efforts around events hosted on the Classy platform, defining scope of risk and implementing compensating controls around risks identified.
  • Create and deliver training where appropriate to educate teams on responsibilities and compliance matters.
  • Nurture an understanding of how non-profit organizations operate throughout North America and Internationally, as well as risks present within the nonprofit industry.
  • Recover negative balances associated with potential losses.
  • Regularly share team progress, updates, and progress to KPIs in team-wide and occasionally company meetings.

You…

  • 7+ years of payments risk management experience in the Fintech space or complex financial firm, including knowledge of merchant processing behaviors, underwriting, financial risk prevention methods, credit risk evaluation, and detection tools.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with an ability to understand GoFundMe’s existing business, explain risk reviews, synthesize information and make clear recommendations on a course of action.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to apply risk-based approaches to mitigate loss associated with non-delivery, transaction risk, credit risk, or fraud schemes.
  • Experience managing and building distributed global  teams in a fast paced, high stakes, solution-oriented environment, while nurturing a positive environment of high-performance, mutual support, and respect.
  • In depth knowledge of the BSA, AML, card network rules, sanctions, KYC and KYB standards, and how these apply for a merchant and within the financial ecosystem
  • At least an intermediate level of experience with SQL, data analytics, or dashboard/visualization solutions (e.g. Looker).
  • Ability to analyze large transactional datasets, spot trends, detect anomalies, interpret ambiguous situations, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Experience with the online payments landscape across all participants: issuer, merchant, acquirer, payment methods, and network.

  • Monetary support for new hire setup, hybrid work & wellbeing, family planning, and commuting expenses
  • A variety of  mental and wellness programs to support employees
