About the Cardiac Med Intermediate Unit:

 

We are also known as the Progressive Care Unit or PCU. Our unit is an intermediate unit that is a step down from our transitional care but a step above med/surg as far as patient acuity

 

Cardiac, Respiratory distress, Septic.

No vents. - Mainly serve cardiac patients, also acute respiratory (no vents/but high flow ) 02 needs/new bipap, etc. then mix of any other disease process in which the physicians determine patient is too sick for floor; but not yet ICU level of care.

 

Fast paced unit combining aspects of ED and ICU into one department--busyness of ED & critical care aspect of ICU.

Requires and builds strong assessment skills and teamwork
