Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (Title 32), Position Description Number D2461000 and is part of the AR ANG 188 WGH WG, National Guard.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Military Grades: Enlisted
- Minimum Military Grade: NLT E-6/TSgt
- Maximum Military Grade: NTE E-8/SMSgt
Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard.
IMPORTANT NOTES (AS APPLICABLE): Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation. A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor). Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO). Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

Qualifications
Experience in scientific or technical work that provided an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the safety and occupational health field. Creditable general experience must have demonstrated the achievement of knowledge equivalent to the education described above.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of base facilities, warehouses, and equipment maintenance operations and evaluated compliance with applicable regulations and hazard system. Recommended measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies. Participated in planning for testing of munitions, and assured integration of explosive safety criteria in testing procedures. Reviewed test implementation directives for inclusion of appropriate safety criteria. Prepared supplements to regulations and manuals for aircraft weapons safety and developed local regulations defining applicable mishap prevention procedures.

DUTIES CONTINUED:
4. Reviews plans and specifications for new construction, major building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment and monitors project through completion to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards. Recommends design changes not included in the original plan and provides technical recommendations to eliminate or control safety hazards in the repair and maintenance of installation facilities and equipment. Develops specialized operating practices affecting construction matters associated with diverse but recognized hazards and attends pre-construction conferences to brief contractor on applicable safety and health requirements. Identifies potential safety hazards to assure adequate fire exits, stairways, aisle space, means of egress, etc. Randomly spot checks industrial sites and notifies responsible person when safety violations or practices are observed (e.g., improper scaffolding, construction pits not safeguarded, improper use of ladders). When need arises, stops any operation that is of imminent danger to personnel or property. Responds to concerns and complaints and answers questions when OSHA is contacted or comes on base.
5. Provides technical safety training/instruction to supervisors, employees, and/or unit safety representatives on a wide range of work operations areas, such as traffic safety techniques, proper storage of hazardous materials, common laboratory hazards, and building evacuation procedures. Prepares and uses a wide variety of formal training materials, such as outlines, handouts, publications, films, exhibits, protective devices, and visual aids to provide and/or reinforce information related to safe work practices, accident prevention techniques, and mishap reporting requirements. Promotes safety campaigns/awareness through oral presentations at local safety committee meetings; and extracts, compiles, and prepares safety articles, bulletins, and pamphlets for local use by base personnel. Maintains required course records. (20%)Performs other duties as assigned.
