Job Summary:

The Sales Engineer provides pre-sales technical and solution support to sales teams within the commercial sales organization. Their role involves advocating for Metronet's fiber optic products and enlightening clients about the advantages of choosing a Metronet solution. Sales Engineers collaborate with clients to identify their product needs and craft tailored solutions, demonstrations, and presentations aimed at IT managers and various decision makers. Additionally, the Sales Engineer offers training and guidance to multiple sales segments within the commercial sales organization. Establishing strong working relationships with the sales teams is essential for the success of the Sales Engineer.

What you will be doing:

    • Act as the primary technical support for various sales teams within the commercial sales organization.
    • Oversee the technology evaluation phase during pre-sales, serving as the principal technical consultant and product advocate for the sales team.
    • Responsible for solution design, pricing, presentation, and product demonstrations.
    • Analyze, design and price intricate services and network solutions tailored to meet specific customer objectives.
    • Conduct individual or group training sessions on products and process for the sales teams.
    • Prepare cost estimates for fiber optics projects by collaborating with Fiber Design Engineering, Field Operations, and other professional and technical personnel.
    • Establish a strong working relationship with the assigned sales teams and sales leadership.
    • Aid the sales channels in addressing technical aspects of RFI's and RFPs as required.
    • Supply the sales channels with components for quote, including bill of materials (BOM's), wiring quotations, network capacity quotations and Visio diagrams.
    • Create comprehensive Statement of Work (SOW) documents for customer contracts as required.
    • May serve as an advisor and provide technical recommendations to project or product development team members.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of industry applications and competitive products.

    • Continuously record and update internal requests in the appropriate systems.
    • Stays current with technology as it pertains to fiber optics infrastructure and telecommunications products.
    • Travel to meet with customers within the assigned Sales Territory as required.

    The Sales Engineer may need to adhere to other job-related directives and carry out extra job-related tasks as directed by management and/or the executive leadership team, in accordance with all relevant state and federal regulations.

What You Need For This Position:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in selling telecom products and services especially Hosted PBX, SIP, PRI, Internet and Managed Wi-Fi, Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, SD WAN, MDU/MTU services and others.
  • At least 3 years of Sales Engineering experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Sales/Sales Consulting experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing and selling fiber optic technology solutions.
  • Training experience in various formats (classroom-led, virtual, other).
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of telecommunications or IT is mandatory.
  • Experience in doing presentations and demonstrations is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.
  • Possession of industry certifications from vendors such as Cisco, Brocade, Juniper, Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF/CECP, CCDA/CCNA, CompTIA) and expertise in Wi-Fi Design software (Ekahau, iBwave, etc.,) are highly advantageous.
