Weâre looking for Sanctions Investigator to join our newly established Sanctions Investigator team in Austin. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wiseâs mission, grow as a Sanctions expert and help Wise stay compliant with Sanctions Regulations. If you enjoy analysing information, carrying out complex investigations, working with constant changes and have an eye for detail this job is for you.Â
The Sanctions Investigator reviews alerts escalated from analysts and takes appropriate action. As an investigator you will verify the presence of any sanctions-related concerns with regards to our customers or any of the transactions. In this role, an understanding of sanctions/ transaction monitoring as well as accuracy in decision making are essential.
Your mission:Â
Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the worldâs first platform to offer true multi-currency banking. Your mission is to protect customers and Wise by assessing whether alerts raised by our sanctions screening systems raise any sanctions concerns.
Job Description
Hereâs how youâll be contributing to the Sanctions Screening team:Â

Follow operational procedures on escalated sanctions alert handling for all alert types, including documenting the decision rationale. Speed and accuracy of decision making is essential.

Perform analysis of potential matches against sanctions lists alerted through sanctions screening of customers and transactions

Conduct review on escalated cases from Sanctions Analyst and escalate true match alerts for reporting requirements

Communicate with customers when further information is required as part of reviewing against sanctions lists

Provide inputs in order to refine automated sanctions screening risk methodology, reduce false positives, mitigate sanctions risks and improve customer experience

Conduct an extensive investigation on alerts and able to exercise a risk based approach alongside with operational procedures

Identify gaps and enhancement opportunities in processes, procedures, tooling and system enhancement and offer/ work towards solutions by liaising with our Leads, Specialists, Engineers and Product Team

Share knowledge with analysts and provide feedback on their case handling

Able to take ownership and accountability for all cases, knowledge sharing and, projects/task, if any
Qualifications

Youâre eligible to work in the US;

Youâre flexible with working hours - your shifts might include some weekends

Your verbal and written English skills are excellent;

You have an exceptionally inquisitive mind. You are always looking out for more information where available, enjoy conducting legal and investigative research utilising open-source research systems.

You have a great eye for detail. You are meticulous and can look at information with factual precision;

You have exceptional logical thinking. You are naturally able to interpret data and draw logical conclusions;

You have great communication skills, both written and verbal. You are able to express your thoughts concisely and logically; youâre able to communicate in a cross-team environment;

Youâre able to articulate and justify your decisions. You are confident and comfortable making independent judgement calls;

Youâre able to work under pressure. You can multitask efficiently and take responsibility in challenging situations;

Previous experience or knowledge about Sanctions is a big plus, as well as an understanding of SWIFT payments, trade finance and cross border payments
