CACI is seeking an experienced SAP ASE (Sybase) Database Administrator to join our Naval Tactical Command Support System (NTCSS) team at Norfolk. This is a hybrid position with occasional travel (once a week) to our headquarters and requires that you are located within the local commuting distance (80 miles) to the Naval Station at Norfolk, VA.

You must have experience with establishing, deploying, and maintaining relational databases such as SAP Sybase; and also with TSQL and Linux based script development (e.g. bash, sh, Perl, python) as well. You will have an important role in maintaining and enhancing the US Navy's premier logistics command and control support information system. You will be the principal resource responsible for all tasks related to the implementation of an RDMS solution within a PaaS based environment. The tasks and activities that will be performed covers the full spectrum DBA activities to include logical and physical database design, installation, tuning as well as Linux Shell Scripting (bash).

You will work in a highly collaborative team-oriented environment which encourages team members to take the initiative. Within this environment you will actively seek to identify solutions to problems and motivate other team members to accept and implement your solutions. Throughout each development cycle you will champion SAP best practices and identify specific areas for process improvement. You will perform systems engineering functions (such as creation of requirement and design documentation, or analysis of impacts to existing system functionality and interfaces for potential modifications). We are seeking a candidate who is flexible and adaptable to perform other duties as assigned.

Other Duties Include:
  • Assist in the identification of security vulnerabilities and remediates them with oversight. Adheres to applicable DoD STIGs (secure technical implantation guides) when developing software.
  • Automate database functions and integrating middleware components for a Linux based Platform as a Service (PaaS) environment.
  • Develop installation packages and create upgrade paths for database updates.
  • Perform project activities relating to Initiating, planning, executing, and monitoring and control; specific tasks include creation of work proposals - technical documentation and work performance reports; Other duties which may include administering the resources required during execution.


Required Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance or higher - Eligible for Top Secret
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification or higher (ex. CompTIA Security+, CASP, CISSP or related).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, and 8 years + of related experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop with the following development tools: TSQL, Visual Studio in multiple operating system environments (Red Hat, Windows, VMWare).
  • Knowledge and ability to program accessing and manipulating SAP ASE (Sybase) RDBMS.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop Linux based scripts (e.g. bash, sh, Perl, python).
  • Knowledge of and ability to harden ports and protocols used for multi-factor authentication of users.
  • Ability to create software installation packages using scripts and packaging tools
  • Ability to apply concepts and technologies associated with computer science and software engineering. (Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Configuration Management, Requirements, Database Design/Development, IA Best Practices and Coding for Secure Systems).
  • Ability to perform complex problem solving across multiple OS and network environments.
  • Ability to effectively use oral and written communications to convey ideas and concepts, explain rationale, and provide recommendations.


Highly Desirable Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of PowerBuilder development - considered a plus
  • Knowledge of and experience in using DoD STIGs - considered a plus


The NTCSS is the set of systems the Navy uses both ashore and afloat to handle supply chain and logistics management. Installed at over 1,000 sites with 250,000 daily users, the system is essential to the smooth functioning of the Navy's supply chain.
