Satellite Communications Systems Engineer

The National Systems Group (NSG) serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.
The Resiliency Futures Office (RFO), within the Advanced Technology Division (ATD) of NSG, provides programmatic and technical expertise to critical government programs in the areas of technology development, technology maturation and space and ground capabilities. We are looking for a Communications Systems Engineer who will guide RFO's support to the development of resilient communications systems and their integration into the customers' resiliency portfolio. This includes technical leadership for architecture, design, and operation along with requirements development, end-to-end analysis, and test and integration oversight.
This position requires 100% on site work in Chantilly, VA
What you'll be doing:
- Working shoulder-to-shoulder with Government & SETA counterparts to advance and lead communications systems engineering activities, including requirements, architecture, design, test, and evaluation across multiple levels of maturity
- Advancing and applying new tools and techniques to derive, analyze, and verify technical satellite communications requirements and performance across the architecture
- Supporting cross-community integration and testing for space and ground segments
- Researching and guiding the development of potential future concepts and architecture solutions for next generation resilient communication systems
- Identifying and pursuing new opportunities for Aerospace prototyping and technology risk reduction activities
- Building and leading Aerospace Matrix Engineer teams of subject matter experts to assess and guide new developments or solve emerging problems in critical technology areas
This position is available as a Project Engineer or a Senior Project Engineer
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for Project Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics or a related technical field, or equivalent experience;
- Eight (8) years of professional engineering experience with increasing responsibilities
- Experience with satellite communications system design, development, integration, test, and/or on-orbit operations
- Established ability to work in teams and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
In addition to the above, the following is required for a Senior Project Engineer
- Twelve (12) years of professional engineering experience with increasing responsibilities
- Recognized ability to lead small teams and coordinate the technical activities of multiple contributors

- Advanced degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) related field
- Familiarity with US government acquisition policies and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of traditional or model-based systems engineering principles and practices
- Knowledge of resilient communications systems and technologies
- Experience in space communications technology development activities in support of US government programs
- Ability to work asynchronously with remote team members
- Familiarity working with an engineering matrix organization
