Satellite Engineer
Job Description
Your role in helping us shape the future:
Working in a team environment you will demonstrate sound systems knowledge of the fundamentals of spacecraft operations spanning all spacecraft bus subsystems; to include attitude control, power, thermal, data handling, and propulsion.
You must be able to apply professional engineering knowledge to the development implementation and maintenance of satellite operations systems and processes throughout the spacecraft lifecycle: Including design review, operations, integration and handover, and long-term operations through decommissioning.

- Monitor the health of spacecraft systems and subsystems throughout the satellites lifecycle.
- Develop satellite operations procedures products and processes based on manufacturer's documentation and operations protocol.
- Define develop and execute command plans to institute spacecraft configuration changes.
- Define and develop satellite system and subsystem requirements for ground network systems. This includes the development of test plans conducting acceptance tests and resolving issues.
- Participate in a variety of spacecraft anomaly investigation and resolution activities.
- Develop software tools methods and procedures to improve testing and measurement capabilities.
- Test and assess the viability/compatibility of new systems and equipment.
- Perform on-call responsibilities on a rotating periodic basis. Available to support outside of normal business hours during the week and on weekends.
Can you drive these processes?
- Perform routine analysis and follow manufacturer recommended operations to maintain satellite health.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve system and subsystem deviations and anomalies.
- Perform testing and analysis of satellite systems and subsystems. This includes system design leading or conducting system tradeoff studies performing integration and test activities and developing technical requirements.
- Define and develop satellite system and subsystem requirements for satellite operations. This includes the development of test plans, conducting acceptance tests and resolving issues
- Develop and distribute reports summarizing technical analysis findings and recommendations.
- Perform self-directed study
You should definitely have:
- A Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline with at least one to three years of professional experience specific knowledge and experience in Satellite Engineering/Operations.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of spacecraft operations spanning all spacecraft bus subsystems including attitude control, power, thermal, data handling, and propulsion
- Ability to work autonomously and perform self-directed research.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good communication skills including the ability to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles and practices across spacecraft applications of engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, logic, computer application.
- Ability to analyze time varying data in plots or tables for specific signatures.
- Natural curiosity to understand how engineering systems function and to analyze performance.
- Expertise in one or more specific spacecraft subsystems and willingness to become proficient in all spacecraft subsystems.
- Computer experience is required to operate various satellite operations ground systems.
- Intermediate Excel programming skills including macro development experience desired.
- Unix Matlab Visual basic PHP and Microsoft Access programming skills a plus.
- This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).
It would be nice if you had:
- Knowledge of one or more of the following spacecraft designs and operations: Boeing Satellite Systems or Maxar (formerly Space System Loral).
- Ability to draft specifications and evaluate proposals.
- Experience with project scheduling and coordination.

- Pay Rate: The annual salary range for this position is $71,900 to $98,900. In determining compensation, Intelsat considers factors including position scope and responsibilities, candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, internal peer equity, as well as others when extending an offer.
