Satellite System Architect
Job Description
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Primary Responsibilities:
- Support digital engineering efforts to integrate system performance and behaviors into operational analysis.
- Provide mission-level modeling and simulation for planning and assessing system performance, informing design trades, and evaluating overall effectiveness.
- Support the development of technology concepts which improve system performance and mission capabilities
- Foster a collaborative team environment
- Work in a model-based systems engineering environment
Must Haves:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline and typically 12 (twelve) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Relevant work experience may substitute for required education.
- Advanced understanding of systems analysis practices, requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
- Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis of spacecraft and spacecraft constellations
- Excellent organizational, self-initiative, and communication skills
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Creative problem solver, able to offer visual solutions.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
- The ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Clearance.
Preferred:
- Experience with leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures.
- Knowledge of industry standard systems engineering design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with DOORS, Cameo, STK, Matlab, Python, and Java
- Experience or certification in INCOSE standards
- Experience leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures.
- Ability to work with minimal information or direction to formulate proposed plans for resolving design/requirement solutions.
- Ability to establish and track key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)
- Experience presenting technical content and communicating effectively.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
- Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
- Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
- Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
- Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
- Rarely exposed to loud noises
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $159,430.15 - $219,216.46
Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
