Betty Shabazz International Charter School JOB DESCRIPTION: Custodian The following are the Duties and Responsibilities of the Custodian under the direction of and subject to the authority of the Campus Operations Manager and Principal, Qualifications: Demonstrated aptitude for the successful completion of task and responsibilities assigned. Must have some experience with school custodial services or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions and /or firms. Reports To: Operations Manager and Building Engineer Job Goal: • To maintain the physical school facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, so that full educational use of them may be made at all times. • To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. Performance Responsibilities(include but are not limited to the following): • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times. • Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. • Shovels and/ or salts walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate. • Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. • Sweeps Classrooms daily and dusts furniture. • Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. • Washes all windows on the inside and outside at least twice a year, and more frequently if necessary. • Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. • Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. • Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. • Makes such minor building repairs, as he is capable of. • Reports signs of vandalism and abuse of the facility to the principal. • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Building Engineer. • Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during no school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance has been requested. • Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. • Perform basic building cleaning duties. • Follow all recommended and established cleaning procedures in assigned areas of responsibilities. • Be available to assist in other areas and other custodians as needed. • Assist visitors as needed. • Assist with building security by making routine facility checks, reporting any suspicious occurrences, and securing buildings daily. • Be available for weekend building checks and emergency calls as needed. • Understand that an occasional need will arise to work a split shift or a weekend activity. • Be directly responsible to the Facility Manager and work under the guidance of the maintenance supervisor. • Be able to lift 50 pounds in the daily performance of the performance and an occasional 50-70 pounds. Terms of Employment: Custodians are hourly employees expected to work 40 (Full-Time) or 20 (Part-Time) hours/week. Hourly rates vary. Evaluation: The Facility Manager and Building Maintenance Supervisor will evaluate performance of this job annually. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $16.20 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Schedule: • 8 hour shift • Monday to Friday • Overtime Work Location: In person
