Job Description

The Science Programs Associate with will report directly to the Senior Director for Science Strategic Partnerships, serving in a key role to coordinate programming and resources that advance psychological science in collaboration with APA divisions and committees, the broader scientific community, and external partners. Daily responsibilities will include production and management of high-quality programs driven by partnership and directorate goals, along with effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders to meet scientific, technical, and organizational needs. Primary goals for this position are to support innovative relationships and platforms that promote psychological science as a core contributor to the pressing issues of our time.

Education and Experience Required (level of education required, specific experience needed; e.g. budget, supervision, experience in industry):

  • Bachelor's degree in psychological science or related field. Masters training or higher is preferred.

  • A minimum of six years of program management work, ideally in an association, scientific society, or academic institution.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including creative problem-solving and coordination of effort with scientists, administrators, and diverse professionals.


Computer Skills Required (including level of expertise):

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite.


Responsibility (main responsibilities of the job. Must include 'Other duties as assigned', and may include responsibilities for financial authority and representing APA to members and outside organizations):

  • As directed by the Senior Director for Science Strategic Partnerships, plan and execute programming that fulfills partnerships with resources and opportunities based in psychological science.
  • Organize training experiences, expert panels, funding reports, and other partnership deliverables.
  • Organize and contribute to meetings involving psychologists, scientists in other fields, policymakers, trainees, and other stakeholders. This may include working independently or with staff teams to manage logistics, correspondence, record-keeping, and publicity.
  • Serve (as needed) as staff liaison to an APA or Science Directorate Committee.
  • Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, teamwork, and growth mindset in diverse professional settings.
  • Other duties as assigned
