Scientific and Medical Writer
Job Description
This individual will be responsible for content development/writing and data visualization for both promotional and non-promotional peer-to-peer medical communications (print and digital) including, but not limited to slide modules, infographics, peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and posters, advisory board content and reports, scientific compendia, executive summaries, video and podcast scripts/discussion guides, and professional audience communications. The Scientific and Medical Writer will primarily support internal and client teams in the areas of ophthalmology, optometry, and ocular surgery, and will possess a medical/scientific background, familiarity with biostatistics, and be well-skilled in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, as well as reference management software (EndNote). The ideal candidate will be scientifically rigorous, creative, organized, able to multitask and prioritize workstreams, and possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop content/write peer-to-peer medical communication materials, with a focus on professional audiences (as noted above and including slide modules, infographics, peer-reviewed manuscripts, advisory board content, video and podcast scripts, etc.)
- Develop mastery/comprehensive understanding of relevant disease state areas and science, as well as client strategic priorities
- Conduct appropriate research to stay abreast of trends within therapeutic categories and support client strategic needs
- Track and manage all aspects of assigned projects and communicate proactively with senior internal team leaders (account and scientific/medical) regarding work status and needs
- Identify and obtain resources to complete projects on time and on budget
- Participate in/facilitate client content-related calls and meetings, as needed
- Collaborate with other internal writers and copyeditors, as necessary
- Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), EndNote, and other company-specific platforms to ensure effective work product; utilize available tools and resources to maximize deliverables
Basic Qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in Communications Marketing and/or related fields
- A Master’s, PharmD, or PhD in life sciences or related discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to understand, translate, and communicate scientific and clinical information/data in a compelling, concise, and creative way
- Ability to think and work strategically
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and Endnote
- Broad understanding of industry guidelines and regulations
- Experience as a scientific/medical writer or content development expert a plus
- Client-facing experience a plus
