Scientist (Electrode)

Description

Solid Power is seeking a Scientist to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. The Scientist will be tasked with contributing to the development of high-performing next generation conversion type cathode. 

Job Duties

• Contribute to the development and integration of an advanced conversion type cathode into solid state cells.
• Contribute to the optimization of cathode slurry mixing and coating process to ensure high quality electrode coating.
• Conduct electrode study which may include electrode composition, new binder-solvent system, new conductive additives, and / or new electrode structure design to improve electrode performance.
• Perform electrode physical characterization as needed to understand the effect of mixing/coating, electrode composition or electrode structure design on electrode performance.
• Perform electrochemical testing to evaluate the electrode performance in solid state battery.
• Conduct post-mortem analysis of electrodes and provide insight for further improvement.
• Summarize experimental data and contribute to technical reports.
• Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
• Adhere to all safety precautions and protocols.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation.
• Document and follow standard operating procedures as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Master’s Degree and 3+ years’ experience in the chemical or battery industry, or Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, material science, or a related discipline. Deep understanding of electrode mixing and coating process and slurry components (binder, solvent, conductive additive, etc.). Hands-on experience on battery slurry formulation, mixing and coating process, and/or solid-state battery development research desirable.
• Structured problem-solving and analytical skills and strong technical skills in areas including electrochemistry and battery electrode development.
• Experience with analytical and characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, TGA, FTIR, EIS, etc.
• Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence.
• Hands-on experience working with battery electrode mixing and coating techniques; experience with glovebox use, air-sensitive materials desirable.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research and development needs.
• A highly analytical, detail-oriented mindset with an eye toward practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• The candidate must be responsible and self-motivated, with a history of stable employment and performance.
• U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency required.

Salary Range: $62,000 - $125,000/year
