Scientist, Epigenetics

The Muñoz-Cánoves lab at Altos Labs San Diego Institute of Science wants to unravel the biology of aging in the context of tissue communication and tissue rejuvenation programming, and to help translate these findings into impactful new treatments. Our goal is to understand the epigenetic mechanisms associated with transient cellular reprogramming, the mechanistic basis of cellular rejuvenation, and to decipher the mechanism of cellular and tissular aging. The integration of multi-omic and epigenetic data will aim to identify pathways, transcription factors, and molecules involved in aging and rejuvenation and guide the design of novel interventions and therapies. The successful candidate will collaborate with both internal and external experimental groups, lead or participate in planning experimental designs, author and contribute to biological and methodological manuscripts, and contribute to seminars and other scientific initiations within Altos as well as a wider scientific community. Your work will lead to the generation of public knowledge in the form of publications; intellectual property in the form of patents; and will directly shape Altos’ pre-clinical programs.

We are open to candidates at the Scientist I or Scientist II level. The level of the position will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Biology or related discipline with an independent ability to formulate scientific questions, design strategies and implement plans effectively.
• Experience with epigenetic techniques and analyses such as  ChIP/ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, and ATAC-seq
• Comprehensive and solid experience in general molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
• Highly collaborative and communicative across different disciplines and functions.
• Demonstrated high productivity and ability to complete work in a timely manner.
• Documents laboratory procedures and experiment data in an accurate and timely manner.
• Problem-solving skills to identify potential issues, test, and develop innovative solutions.
• Ability to organize work and set priorities.
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to attune through writing and presentations to a variety of audiences including senior executives to entry-level employees.
• Advanced proficiency with Google apps, Excel, and PowerPoint graphic skills to produce documents.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the epigenetic machinery of reprogramming.
• Experience with stem cells and/or tissue biology.
• Experience with the performance of experiments in mouse models.

Salary range: Scientist I, 111,350 - 150,650; Scientist II, 131,000 - 183,750
