The successful candidate will join the Gene Editing group and develop tools to understand and characterize the function, specificity, and safety of our engineered megaTAL nucleases used in oncology and in vivo gene editing programs.

About the role:

• Develop cutting edge NGS technology, identify creative solutions to problems and establish new methodologies and workflows to improve sequencing technologies and nuclease characterization
• Collaborate with protein engineers and data scientists to improve nuclease engineering platform using on-target and off-target data sets for our engineered nucleases
• Work with data scientists to develop automated tools for in silico nuclease target identification and selection
• Evaluate and develop de-risking strategies for identified off-target sites of engineered nucleases, including collaboration with data scientists, harnessing bioinformatic tools and wet lab work
• Research, evaluate and manage vendors to perform assays to assess gross chromosomal abnormalities, such as karyotyping and FISH
• Mentor Senior Associate Scientists to achieve scientific goals
• Keep current on trends, new products, and technologies in gene editing

About you:

• PhD in Bioengineering, Cell biology, Molecular Biology or a related discipline. 3+ years post graduate experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in genome engineering of mammalian cells
• Skillful with molecular biology techniques (primer/probe design, qPCR, ddPCR, RT-PCR, NGS) and cell manipulation (transfection and transduction).
• Prior experience using methods to investigate off-target nuclease-mediated editing and/or viral integration a plus
• Experience as a people manager preferred, must have a passion for mentoring and developing junior scientists
• Experience with computational/bioinformatics tools used for NGS analysis and proficiency with computer languages (such as Python) for data analysis and visualization
• Able to think creatively and independently and adapt to a fast paced and always changing work environment
• Excellent communications skills and ability to manage projects with internal and external collaborators
• Very organized and diligent in experimental design, execution, and reporting
