As a Scientist I, you will be accountable for performing and documenting procedures and techniques on animals being used for studies in toxicity, research, and other areas of biotechnology, medical device, or drug research and development at our North Manufacturing Facility in Fort Worth, TX.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Performing and documenting procedures and techniques on animals being used for studies in toxicity, research, and other areas of biotechnology, medical device, or drug research and development.
  • Maintaining program and facility standards to ensure compliance of animal facilities, animal husbandry practices, and in vivo testing procedures to all applicable regulations.
  • Serving as the liaison with facilities, maintenance, and engineering personnel and/or with commercial vendors to maintain preventive maintenance schedules and periodic quality-control assessments for major equipment items crucial to the delivery of high-quality care to research animals.
  • Assisting with in-vivo testing of raw materials, finished goods, products, investigations per schedule and per standards/SOPs.
  • Collecting, calculating, entering, and reporting test results.
  • Taking ownership and implementing revisions for SOPs related to testing programs, laboratory operations and/or equipment operation.
  • Assisting with investigative testing to support laboratory investigations.
  • Conducting peer review of data collected by co-workers.
  • Coordinating equipment calibration & maintenance.
  • Displaying proper care, handling of and use of all animals.
  • Compliance with all Regulatory, Quality & Safety requirements.
  • Performing all laboratory housekeeping.
  • Performing a variety of tasks related to the processing of ingredients and/or pharmaceutical products.
  • Operating general manufacturing equipment, such as autoclaves, ovens, isolator systems, filtration apparatus.
  • Handling raw materials and intermediate or finished products.
  • Mixing compound ingredients for liquid products, suspensions, and ointment.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Work hours: Monday-Thursday; 6:00am-5:00pm
  • Travel Requirements: None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with animals.
  • Laboratory Animal Sciences certification
