The Scientist I is an R&D position sitting within our Protein Sciences team, and is part of a fast paced, innovative medical devices company. In this role, you will be in the immunoreagent group supporting existing products and developing new products, by generation of key reagents used in the assessment of detection of an infectious disease. This position is entirely lab based and will involve learning new techniques under direction. Critical thinking is required to formulate objective conclusions regarding experimental data. Daily activities include simple and complex buffer preparation, protein quantification assay, protein purification, SDS-PAGE, western blot, data recording.Â
Snapshot of Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments, under the supervision of Director and Senior Scientist, to develop new and improved products. Multi-tasking is required.
- Execute the lab procedures as directed, identify and communicate problems, corrections, changes immediately.
- Record results in laboratory notebooks as per GLP requirements, learn and excel in processes that support our quality system including preparation of documents as required for products.
- Help generate and transfer relevant documentation to manufacturing for product transfer.
- Work as part of interdepartmental project teams with other OTI personnel.
What You Bring
- Bachelors Degree in a relevant science such as Biology with an emphasis on microbiology and or biochemistry highly desirable.
- Prior lab experience is required. Experience with the following is preferred: Bacterial and cell culture work, PCR, electrophoresis, purification, experience with Akta, HPLC, PCR, plate reader, spectrophotometers, assays, graphing via Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
- Experience with common laboratory tools, instruments and procedures such as pipetting, using a balance, spectrophotometer, centrifuge, pH meter, and preparation of buffers, is required.
- A working knowledge and willingness to adhere to laboratory procedures and lab safety is required.
