Scientist III/Sr. Scientist (Li metal anode R&D)

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Scientist III/Sr. Scientist to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. This position will be responsible for leading the development of lithium metal anodes within the Research & Development group. The scientist will work closely with the electrolyte and cathode processing groups, the cell engineering team, and the program management team to commercialize a high-energy solid-state battery that pairs a lithium metal anode with a conversion cathode.

Job Duties

• Serve as a technical lead for development of lithium metal anodes in all-solid-state batteries.
• Develop anodes and cell processing conditions that support high energy density, fast charging, and long calendar life.
• Establish mechanisms for cell degradation using electrochemical methods and other analytical tools. Make recommendations for improvements and implement design changes.
• Collaborate with an academic partner for anode development and technology transfer.
• Support laboratory infrastructure by bringing new capabilities on-line and maintaining existing tools. Communicate with vendors to source new materials and equipment.
• Present project progress internally and externally.
• Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members. Mentor and contribute to the professional development of junior staff.

Qualifications/Requirements

• PhD. in chemistry, material science, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5 years of experience in the development of lithium or Li-ion batteries. Hands on experience with lithium metal anodes or electroplating is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with electrode processing, cell development, electrochemical testing, and electroanalytical techniques.
• Experience in material characterization such as XRD, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, FTIR, or Raman spectroscopy.
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced start-up environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Salary Range: $83,000 - $152,000/year
