We are seeking a Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team. The ideal candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary group to investigate the impact of various chemical compounds on polymerization kinetics and performance of Class II and Class III medical devices. Project work will include material characterization, formulation development, device fabrication, and analytical characterization of the finished products to progress new technologies through a design build test cycle for technical and clinical proof of concept. A background in chemistry, material science, polymer science, chemical engineering, or biomedical engineering is required.
Principle Duties/Responsibilities:
• The Scientist will support departmental objectives through the execution of technical projects to evaluate new materials or enhancements of existing contact lenses and intraocular lenses. This will include partnerships with internal team colleagues and at times external researchers to plan, design, conduct experiments, analysis, and interpretation of the results with the goal to identify new technologies and characterization opportunities.
• Responsibilities will include: Developing novel formulations and process characterization activities that focus on enhancing the J&J Vision product pipeline through the support of early stage material design, formulation development, and material characterization to meet product or process development requirements. Laboratory bench top and pilot scale process development activities will be expected.
• Additional responsibilities will include: A working knowledge of material characterization techniques such as HPLC, UV/VIS, DMA, DSC, and FTIR. Working knowledge of global ocular material intellectual property and technical report generation will be required. Cross functional collaboration with internal and external partners.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 2 years' industrial experience and bachelors' degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or other equivalent field is required.
• Industrial or academic experience in formulation development, polymer photochemistry and/or structure property characterization is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• The ability to embrace a highly multi-disciplinary collaborative approach and work independently is essential. Candidate would adhere to environmental policy and procedures and support department environmental objectives.
• This position is based in Jacksonville, FL and may require up to 10% travel.
This job posting is anticipated to close on December 9, 2024, the company may however extend this time-period.
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
