Role Summary:
As a member of the Platform Discovery team, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of new therapies for serious muscle diseases. The scientist will collaborate closely with early research and program teams to support the discovery and characterization of new targets and therapeutics. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership, bring innovative ideas to solve complex problems, and communicate effectively within and across functions to advance research activities.
This role is lab focused, based in Waltham, MA without the possibility of being remote. Applicants must be able to relocate to the area.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Independently design, execute, and report biochemical and cellular assays for characterizing novel drug candidates, and their impact on muscle biology
- Develop new assays to address mechanistic questions related to our delivery platforms
- Utilize public and proprietary resources to explore and validate novel targets and targeting modalities for pipeline expansion opportunities
- Work effectively and collaboratively with other functions including Neuromuscular Research, Preclinical Development, and Data Sciences to collectively advance R&D activities
- Contribute to critical discussions of therapeutic structure, activity, and function
- Contribute to additional Platform expansion activities
- Present data to internal and external audiences via talks, abstracts, posters, and original manuscripts
 Education and Skills Requirements:
- PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a similar field, or MSc with 3-5 years of equivalent hands-on industry experience in early drug discovery
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and established molecular and biochemical techniques including flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, cell reporter systems, cloning, qPCR, western blot, and ELISA
- Experience developing assays to elucidate mechanistic pathways
- Experience with antibodies, antibody conjugates, or other biologics is desired
- Ability and motivation to rapidly learn and apply new technologies
- Strong written and oral communication skills and working in a highly collaborative and cross-functional research environment.
- Strong organizational skills, multitasking, attention to details, and ability to effectively document research
- Experienced in software applications (Prism, Excel, PowerPoint, Electronic notebooks)
