SUMMARY: 

Generation Bio seeks an energetic, versatile, and highly motivated scientist to join our discovery research group. For this position, the successful candidate will support development of our cell targeted lipid nanoparticle (ctLNP) delivery platform. The candidate will play a key role in our research and development efforts, utilizing various biophysical techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), HPLC and other analytical methods, to analyze and characterize biomolecules, proteins, and other biological macromolecules. They will work with the broader discovery organization to identify as well as characterize structural and functional properties of antibodies and/or related molecules using diverse techniques. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Play a key role in method development and validation to characterize biological molecules and protein-LNP conjugates using a variety of biophysical techniques, such as differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), mass spectrometry, circular dichroism (CD), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
• Execute experiments and collect high-quality data using state-of-the-art HTP biophysical instruments and equipment. Ensure data integrity and reproducibility.
• Analyze and interpret data from biophysical assays to understand protein stability, binding kinetics, thermodynamics, and binding affinities.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including immunologists, chemists, and formulation engineers to integrate biophysical data into broader research projects and drug discovery efforts.
• Troubleshoot and optimize assays as needed to improve sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields with a minimum of 2 years of pharma/biotech experience.
• Hands-on experience and knowledge of DSC, HPLC and other biophysical techniques.
• Excellent lab technique and the ability to work independently to analyze, interpret, and present data.
• Experience in developing biophysical assays for screening and profiling.
• Knowledge of HTP assay development with robotic Liquid Handlers (e.g. Biomek , Tecan, or Hamilton).
• Ability to multi-task to support multiple projects across platform discovery organization.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience in characterization of therapeutic protein candidates (and/or AAVs, oligonucleotides).
• Prior experience with Bekman Coulter Biomek liquid handler system is a plus.
