About the opportunity…

We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Proteomics Scientist in Waltham, MA to contribute to our innovative platform. The successful candidate will develop mass spectrometry assay workflows using state-of-the-art instrumentation and software to analyze and interpret how our molecules alter disease biology. The candidate will, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team including computational biologists, medicinal chemists, biochemists, biophysicists and biologists, design proteomics and phosphoproteomics experiments to support our novel platform to discover the effects of site-directed phosphorylation on proteins involved in disease pathways.

Photys Therapeutics is an exciting early-stage biotechnology company developing proprietary bifunctional small molecules platform that fine-tunes control of protein post-translational modifications, going beyond degradation to restore protein function, repair signaling, and amplify endogenous disease-fighting mechanisms. We will unlock directed protein posttranslational modifications to treat a broad range of diseases such as cancer, immunological disorders, and metabolic diseases.

What you will do…

• Develop and implement mass spectrometry-based workflows to map and quantify posttranslational modifications to proteins.
• Design and execute global and targeted proteomic and phosphoproteomic assays in a range of biological contexts.
• Analyze data sets, communicate results to multi-disciplinary teams, and create hypotheses based on your interpretations that drive projects forward.
• Maintain and manage MS and nano-LC instruments.
• Follow technical advances in mass spectrometry and incorporate those developments into our workflows.
• Present own work and interpretation at group, program and company meetings as well as externally as necessary
• Proactively communicate with team members and share knowledge and learning to guide target discovery programs.
• Maintain accurate experimental documentation in the ELN and database.
• Maintain a safe work environment.

About you…

• Ph.D. in Proteomics, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related discipline or equivalent MS degree with 2-4 years of mass spectrometry experience.
• Experience with operating and maintaining an Orbitrap mass spectrometer and nano-LC instrument.
• Demonstrated ability in sample preparation for mass spectrometry, including from recombinant proteins and cell lines. Sample preparation experience with tumors or tissues is a plus.
• An understanding of how to perform peptide mapping of posttranslational modifications or targeted proteomics, such as MRM or PRM, is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability in critically analyzing proteomic data sets and using established software platforms (Spectronaut, MaxQuant, Skyline, Proteome Discoverer, or others).
• Strong communication skills with experience distilling large amounts of data to actionable information.
• An ability both to work independently and in an agile, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
