The Category Manager will have responsibility for structuring and supporting categories related to the acquisition of large value, highly complex /engineered projects, equipment, and associated services related to T&D Equipment for US businesses globally. The Category Manager will manage in coordination with the Supply Chain Manager, other Category Managers and Category Buyers in different global regions, the acquisition process from the early stages of strategy development through contract execution; and is responsible for ensuring the safe and timely supply of reliable plant equipment and services at optimal Total Cost of Ownership and quality to AES. The Category Manager will be knowledgeable in T&D projects/operations and the associated technical and commercial requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Implement a category-based sourcing strategy within the US and in alignment with other Utilities in the organization.
• Coordinate with people across AES Indiana/AES Ohio and the different global regions to create a cooperative/team environment under the governance defined for the category management program.
• Engage with internal customers to expand the governance of the Supply Chain model and pursue all tactical steps required to successfully execute competitive bidding processes for direct spend categories (i.e. technical specifications, scopes of work)
• Establishing and maintaining best-in-class procurement processes for new construction projects, major maintenance projects, and technology improvements to exploit the advantages of the global supply base.
• Developing project specific sourcing strategies including the exploration of alternate sources of supply, the consolidation of requirements across AES businesses, alternative solutions or technologies, cost avoidance, inventory reduction, standardization, low-cost country sourcing etc.
• Manage category - "knowledge", suppliers, supplier performance, total cost models and market analysis.
• Monitor and maintain the category ongoing, including maintenance of information in systems (i.e AES Planning System)
• Forecast and plan category supply requirements w/ AES BUs.
• Assuring the optimizations of AES Global leverage (Local/Regional/Global) on behalf of the individual businesses.
• Lead, manage and give guidance to the cross-functional SBU category leader teams
• Develop and maintain a constant and credible relationship with major internal operational leaders and critical suppliers of responsible categories.
• Negotiate Standard Terms and Conditions for the provision of Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contracts; Major and Minor Equipment Supply; and Services as needed.
• Managing the preparation of event-specific sourcing documentation including Requests for Information; Requests for Proposals; Technical, Commercial and Pricing Datasheets; and Special Terms and Conditions.
• Mitigating AES Business Risk by ensuring the use of comprehensive scope documentation, technical specifications, and contracts.
Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have minimum of 3+ years successful experience in T&D Projects and/or an Integrated Utility. This individual will be highly collaborative and have proven skills in developing a consensus from diverse opinions in a highly fluid and sometimes ambiguous environment. This individual will bring the ability to manage and lead through influence and strength of data driven business propositions in a diverse environment.
In addition, we expect the qualified candidate to have:
- Strong contract negotiation skills
- Knowledge and experience with sourcing/procuring power plant/utility equipment, services, and construction
- Experience in developing "Total Cost of Ownership" and other business models
- Solid computer skills, especially on Excel
- Experience in supplier qualification and supplier development
- Knowledge of SAP MM module (desirable)
- Knowledge of SAP Ariba (desirable)
Education:
Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or Engineering, preferably Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
