The Hartford is seeking a Scaled Agile Scrum Master (SM) to support our MLC portfolio. The Scrum Master will be part of a team delivering business capabilities and customer value in alignment with the portfolio strategic roadmap and is a critical role that facilitates ceremonies for an agile team, arranges daily stand-up meetings, and facilitates/schedules meetings, demo and decision-making processes.

In this role, the individual coaches an agile team and removes impediments by escalating when appropriate and acts as a trusted partner with the Product Owner, Release Train Engineer and leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Servant leader who facilitates and coaches an agile team in Scrum Principles and best practices, depending on line of business
  • Facilitates ceremonies for the agile team with direction from T7 Sr. Scrum Masters, RTEs, and strong oversight from Agile Coaches
  • Arranges daily stand-up meetings, facilitates/schedules meetings, demo and decision-making processes in order to ensure quick inspection and proper use of adaptation process with some oversight
  • Ensures teams adhere to established governance models with oversight
  • Serve as a liaison between agile teams and all project stakeholders
  • Provides information regarding team health (people, process, progress and overall satisfaction) to Technology and Business Leaders
  • Work with product managers and development teams to assure requirements are captured and recorded using agile methodology
  • Understands product planning in an inspect and adapt environment, and ensures the Product Owner prioritizes Product Backlog to maximize value
  • Understands and communicates business value of new work
  • Influences key members of their Agile team (Product Owner, Software Engineers, etc.) to improve and change behaviors to agile ways of working
  • Applies conflict resolution practices and principles to promote teamwork
  • Tracks and communicates the overall team progress, providing visibility to stakeholders (i.e. Retrospectives, Sprint Planning)
  • Partners with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans and manage progress
  • Provides coaching to the Scrum Team(s) on agile principles, servant leadership, and executing Scrum frameworks
  • Participates in and seeks mentorship from the Scrum Master / RTE CoP
  • Analyzes the efficiency of the development team through standard metrics
  • Helps with change management activities around agile ways of working
  • Mitigates work blockages, shielding team from outside distractions
  • Assesses maturity of the agile team and coaches team to higher levels
  • Builds a trusted environment where problems can be raised without blame or retribution, with an emphasis on teamwork and problem solving

Qualifications:

  • Minimum2 years of relevant work experience, including digital, technology, or project management fields
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Familiarity with the insurance industry preferred
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc. preferred
  • Working knowledge of Agile techniques: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Test-driven Development, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Burn-down Metrics, Velocity etc.
  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) preferred
  • Experience with agile lifecycle management tools (e.g., Rally, JIRA) and toolsets such as Agile Central preferred
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills, including ability to work with stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability understand audiences and tailor messages
  • Familiarity with analyzing data to identify insights and create hypotheses for testing
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to handle multiple high-priority demands, manage expectations and achieve objectives
  • Able to handle basic scope, complexity, and metrics monitoring within an agile team

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
