Scrum Master

Role Overview: A Scrum Master provides management and direction to a VA development team to include organizing and facilitating release and sprint planning sessions, daily stand-up meetings, sprint demos, retrospectives, story grooming sessions, and any other Scrum-related meetings.

Responsibilities:

• Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress to all affected teams and management
• Facilitates discussion and conflict resolution to improve team productivity while promoting continuous improvement and continuous development
• Updates Agile tracking systems to provide transparency on product and sprint backlogs
• Assists the team in making appropriate commitments through story selection and task definition and ensures that the development teams are practicing the core Agile principles
• Lead all project compliance activities by updating the required dashboards; writing, compiling, and/or editing project artifacts; preparing for milestone reviews; and advising VA customers on compliance requirements and upcoming actions
• Make recommendations on how information request responses should be worded or formatted to satisfy the requestor’s requirements and avoid rework
• Oversee scope management tasks, by supporting change management activities, and by participating in business requirements development, program increment planning, sprint reviews, and release planning
• Assist the Product Line Release Manager in preparing for release and deployment activities and in coordinating with the appropriate stakeholders
• Work proactively and independently to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
• Plan, monitor, and control relevant tasks outlined in the contract and statement of work
• Maintain knowledge of VA rules and regulations.
• Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

• SCRUM Certification, Agile Certifications and in-depth experience of being a scrum master for a larger tech organization or large-scale products
• Experience working as a contractor or an employee for the Federal government
• Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to demonstrate initiative to address incoming items without always being specifically tasked, a self-starter

Professional Certification(s):

Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Agile certifications

Formal Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relative area of technical expertise

Years of Professional Experience:

5 years with the bachelor’s degree

Technical certification in relative technology functional area or subject can be substitute for degree in specific technology

• Experience working as a contractor or an employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
• Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• High attention to detail
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to grasp complex technologies easily, learn new information quickly, and adapt to changing job requirements
