MITRE's Enterprise Design, Discovery & AI Department is seeking a Search and Artificial Intelligence Engineer who is passionate about search and artificial intelligence (AI) to help us revolutionize knowledge reuse within MITRE. This person will work closely with the business to understand search/information needs. They will also work closely with the internal teams (IT, security, accounts administration, etc.) to ensure that all efforts are fully integrated. The position requires strong organizational and time management skills as individuals work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.

The work is hybrid and can be located in any of our Virginia, Massachusetts, Texas or Florida office locations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Understand MITRE's business needs, particularly those related to enterprise knowledge reuse
• Work with the team to help evolve MITRE's information strategy
• Lead the implementation of performant search and AI systems based on open source and commercial solutions, working closely with team members in IT, UX, security, etc.
• Apply relevancy tuning techniques to optimize search results
• Lead functional testing of search and AI implementations
• Problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues related to search including challenges with content, access, security/permissions
• Communicate with end users to ensure adoption of enterprise search and AI solutions
• Analyze performance data, formulate insights, and translate them to actionable next steps

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of related work experience plus a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an Al-related field of study or 3+ years of related work experience with a Master's Degree in related field. Comparative education and experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of search engines, SEO, API options, and third-party tools

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with search architecture, federated search architecture, connectors, crawling conventions, indexing details, etc.
• Experience with search applications such as Microsoft Search, Elastic, SOLR, Elastic Cloud, and the Watson Suite
