The Role

Nordic's Security Engineer will maintain a global security solution suite that integrates with and supports Nordic's application systems and IT cloud infrastructure. The Security Engineer will provide a framework for information system development, maintenance, and enhancement efforts. This individual will continuously evaluate configurations for design flaws and develop improvements to maintain a hardened posture across the enterprise. The Security Engineer will work closely with IT leadership on application road maps and align development plans for the organization's secure infrastructure and reduce risk.

Key Responsibilities

Performs duties and responsibilities corresponding with assigned functions within the department which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
  • Analyze organizational needs and requirements to plan security solutions
  • Identifies cybersecurity and privacy issues that stem from connections with internal and external customers and partner organizations
  • Manage and administer the updating of rules and signatures (e.g., intrusion detection/protection systems, antivirus, and content blacklists) for specialized cyber defense applications
  • Build, install, configure, and test dedicated cyber defense hardware
  • Document and address Nordic's information security, cybersecurity architecture, and systems security engineering requirements throughout the development life cycle
  • Maintaining configuration management and service delivery while ensuring Nordic's security policies are enforced
  • Respond to security infrastructure modification requests
  • Researching areas of improvement and design/implement necessary enhancements
  • Develops strategy and roadmaps of enterprise security portfolio
  • Developing and automating Microsoft Azure-based technologies and processes
  • Creating best practices for cloud operations and consulting the business and IT project teams throughout the duration of a project
  • Collaborating with teams across the business for project planning and implementations


Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required
  • 3+ years' experience providing cloud systems administration and design support
  • Proficient at configuring and utilizing software-based computer protection tools (e.g., software firewalls, Email Security Gateway, antivirus software, anti-spyware)
  • Deep technical skills in cloud architecture and security
  • Ability to prioritize, attentive to details, maintain confidentiality and provide exceptional service
  • Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills required
  • Well-developed communication skills, both interpersonal and organizational
  • Ability to translate operational requirements into protection needs (i.e., security controls)
  • Familiar with system, network, and OS hardening techniques. (e.g., remove unnecessary services, password policies, network segmentation, enable logging, least privilege, etc.)
  • A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects. Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating system and Office Suites (Including older and current versions)
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerShell
  • Must demonstrate and embody the Nordic maxims


Additional Details
  • Position will be in Madison, WI, at Nordic's Home Office
  • Occasional travel up to 5% of the time
