Job Description

How you'll make an impact:
As a Security Engineer at Strata, you will install, administer, and optimize security tools to achieve and maintain a mature security posture for all business applications. Working as a team member on the Security team you will be ensuring Strata has the correct security measures in place and provide continuous improvement opportunities to extend our capabilities and security to our client data.
In your role as the Security Engineer, you will be tasked with managing and maintaining this environment including configuration management, upgrades, identification of end of life/support systems that need to be replaced, architecture of new solutions, and recommending and executing modifications to these systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance. The engineer in this role will focus on the following areas and technologies:
  • SIEM management
    • Evaluate current SIEM architecture and performance and lead improvements with how the tool is leveraged and deployed.
    • Maintain a working relationship with Strata's MSSP as well as SIEM vendor to push for feature enhancements and value to Strata.
    • Respond to alerts generated by the SIEM and MSSP.
    • Evaluate opportunities to create run books and areas to extend our SOAR capabilities.
    • Assist in the evaluation of current SIEM capabilities and replacement opportunities as warranted.
    • Review daily and weekly compliance reports generated by the SIEM to ensure compliance with our regulatory requirements and overall security hygiene.
    • Apply an analytical mindset to SIEM operations including report generation and alarms to challenge the "why" question and adapt to best practices.
  • Versed in the use of security tools to ensure security across the environment.
    • EDR/MDR
    • Web content filtering
    • Email security
    • Multifactor Authentication
    • User identity and access management
    • Vulnerability management tools
  • Respond to service requests within JIRA in a timely manner.
  • Configure, troubleshoot and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.
  • Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.
  • Member of Strata's computer security incident response team to identify threats and investigate security events
  • Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.
  • Support Senior Engineers and provide support on various security projects
  • Collect and provide audit evidence to support certification efforts

How we work:
We have the flexibility to support hybrid work - our campuses are located in Chicago, IL and St. Louis, MO. Regardless of location, you'll have the chance to visit our Chicago headquarters throughout the year!
What we're looking for:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a SOC or similar security role
  • Strong analytical skills – the ability to assist in resolving various systems issues for multiple integrated locations and systems.
  • Specifically, this position will require daily utilization and problem-solving skills with respect to the following technologies (candidate does not need to be skilled in all the following areas but needs to be knowledgeable on most):
    • SIEM administration
    • Antivirus tooling
    • Security assessment tools such as Nessus, BURP, and NMAP
  • Time management and organizational skills are imperative.
  • Experience working with DevOps and Software Engineering teams
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with all levels of management and personnel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply learned principles
