WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Security Engineer Lead assists in assessing threat vectors facing Waystar's information systems and network, helps assess Waystar's level of vulnerability to these threats, and helps collaborate with other teams tasked with mitigating or remediating the risks associated with these threats. The Security Engineer Lead works with the Security Engineer team members, assisting with training, access, investigations, assessments, and communication. The Security Engineer Lead contributes to our security team by helping drive and implement application security strategy, innovation, design, and process improvement. The Security Engineer Lead partners with and provides guidance for other department teams to further improve our overall security posture.

In addition to the requirements of the Security Engineer and Senior Security Engineer:

  • Help prioritize and manage complex Security or Technology projects and tasks
  • Help coordinate Security requirements across multiple business units

  • Assist in capturing/reporting security metrics
  • Lead one or more Security team members
  • Mentor/develop junior members of the team
  • Partner with and provide guidance for other departments/teams
  • Other duties as required

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

The candidate must:

• Have a minimum of 2-5 years' experience leading a security team

• Have a minimum of 10 years' experience in technology

• Have a working knowledge of Systems and Network Administration

• Have worked on complex projects within a corporate or government environment

• Have worked in a regulated environment, specifically within the Financial or Healthcare

sectors

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification or an advanced degree in IT or Security disciplines
  • At least one year of related IT or Security work experience
  • Knowledge of Security tools, such as vulnerability scanners, application scanners, SIEM, FIM, IDS/IPS, & AV, etc.

  • SOC experience, Security Engineering background
  • Experience in system patching and/or vulnerability management
  • Experience working in an environment with audit and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Experience working as part of an Incident Response team
  • Experience training others

  • Experience writing technical documentation
