This role in the Law and Compliance department will support commercial contracting for Applied's procurement organizations, with an emphasis on logistics services and construction activity. The position requires the ability to address a broad range of legal issues and to partner with business stakeholders and others in the Law and Compliance department to collaborate and problem-solve. Participating in internal projects designed to drive continuous process improvement and technology adoption is a critical aspect of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate supplier contracts in support of procurement, with an emphasis on logistics (customer shipments, transportation, parts distribution, etc.) and construction-related goods and services.
- Advise internal clients regarding contract terms and other legal issues.
- Ensure that contracts comply with legal, regulatory, and operational requirements.
- Partner effectively with other groups in the Law and Compliance department to deliver effective and comprehensive legal support to business stakeholders.
- Actively participate in process and technology projects designed to improve service and efficiency within the Law and Compliance department and Applied's procurement organizations.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited and recognized law school.
- 7-10 years of legal experience with a focus on commercial transactions.
- Excellent negotiation skills including first-hand experience leading negotiations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to support a global business.
- Ability to spot compliance and regulatory implications of commercial procurement activity.
- Ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and with a diverse group of colleagues in multiple countries.
- Flexible working hours to support clients outside North America.
- Ability to travel (up to 5% of time).
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:
- Substantial experience in construction contracts and/or logistics contracts.
- Work experience in law firm and/or in-house corporate legal departments.
- Experience with contract lifecycle management systems.
- Interest in technology implementation and adoption in the workplace.
- Understand how to translate business needs into contract language and creatively resolve business issues.
- Passionate, proactive, highly motivated self-starter.
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to create specific action plans based on general guidance and deliver results.
- Ability to see the big picture and identify and design-out problems from the outset; continuous improvement mindset.

U.S. Salary Range:
$160,000.00 - $220,000.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
