Southern Financial Reporting is looking for an accountant with 5 years of experience. The position will be primarily responsible for the monthly accounting functions and reporting requirements of the Southern Parent entity in the Southern Financial Reporting department. This position is located in Atlanta, Georgia, but open to other remote work locations.

Southern Financial Reporting is looking for an accountant with 5 years of experience. The position will be primarily responsible for the monthly accounting functions and reporting requirements of the Southern Parent entity in the Southern Financial Reporting department. This position is located in Atlanta, Georgia, but open to other remote work locations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare all Parent Company journal entries
- Prepare payments and reimbursements for Southern Company Directors
- Validate debt entries from Treasury reporting tool Reval
- Prepare quarterly consolidated tax savings entries
- Prepare intercompany loans and interest calculations
- Prepare common stock, EPS, and Diluted EPS calculations support
- Prepare retained earnings report for dividends on common stock
- Prepare quarterly cash flow statement and support
- Prepare payments related to tax benefits of stock options
- Prepare monthly cash entries and reconciliations in Oracle cash management
- Distribute quarterly cash flow and balance sheet reconciliation
- Prepare variances explanations to prior year
- Consolidate company provided schedules for out of period entries
- Serve as a Company Coordinator and assist in the preparation of the annual form 10-K and quarterly 10-Q filings
- Provide assistance with Southern Financial Reporting's SOX-related activities and ensure compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes Oxley Act
- Provide audit support to both internal and external auditors as required.
- Participate and assist with special project activities including, but not limited to, Southern Financial Reporting's Business Assurance Plan, Accounting Research, and other ad hoc requests from management, subsidiary companies or other departments as required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA or CPA candidate desired
- 5 years of accounting experience in one or more of the following areas: public accounting, financial accounting, regulatory accounting, finance, internal controls, or auditing is required
- Experience with Wdesk, Oracle, Excel, and Word are desired
- Experience with journal entries, projects, and reporting tools within new Enterprise Foundations environment, Oracle Cloud, is desired
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, related rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of Securities and Exchange Commission rules and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission accounts
- Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance requirements
- Understanding of accounting, specifically utility accounting, and ratemaking principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
- Ability to interface effectively with accounting personnel at Southern Company's subsidiaries, SCS Financial Planning, and others across the Southern system.
- Works well with others.
- Ability to support multiple assignments simultaneously under tight deadlines. Works well under stress.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
