Position Summary

As a Senior Accountant at Revant Optics, you'll work closely with our remote Controller to steer the financial success of Revant while also providing invaluable support to our parent company, Nolk.

Your days will be filled with a variety of responsibilities, from processing monthly bills, preparing monthly financial statements, leading month end close, to meticulously managing tax filings and sales tax complexities spanning 46 states using Avalara. You'll be the linchpin of our accounting operations, ensuring the seamless integration of Shopify and Netsuite systems, and taking charge of monthly financial closings, accruals, and accounts reconciliation.

Revant offers a competitive compensation package including:

  • Base salary, $65,000 - $80,000 (dependent upon experience)

Essential Functions

  • Monthly Financial Closing - Lead the monthly financial closing process, encompassing accruals and meticulous adjustments to ensure precise financial reporting.
  • Process and Pay Monthly Bills - Handle the timely processing and payment of monthly bills, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial procedures.
  • Monthly Cashflow Planning - Create and manage monthly cashflow plans specifically aimed at facilitating bill payments and maintaining financial stability.
  • Payroll Tax Filings - Responsible for accurately completing all necessary tax filings associated with employee payroll, including the transition to the ADP platform.
  • Sales Tax Filings - Manage the comprehensive process of filing sales tax across 46 states using the Avalara system, ensuring adherence to all legal requirements.
  • Shopify/Netsuite Integration - Oversee the seamless integration of Shopify and Netsuite systems, encompassing Avatax functionality for accurate tax calculations.
  • Benefits Payment and Reporting - Take charge of benefit payment processing and associated reporting tasks, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
  • Accounts Receivable - Address Accounts Receivable tasks as required, ensuring proper documentation and communication with clients.
  • Accounts Reconciliation - Regularly perform thorough reconciliations of all accounts, both on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis, to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Financial Audit Support - Collaborate in financial audit activities as needed, providing required documentation and support to ensure a smooth audit process.
  • Inventory Reporting for NetSuite - Maintain comprehensive inventory reporting for the NetSuite system, facilitating accurate financial evaluations.
  • Backup for Biweekly Payroll Processing - Execute the biweekly processing and payment of employee payroll, adhering to established schedules and protocols when the HRBP is absent.
  • Monthly Financial Accounting (Nolk) - Undertake necessary monthly financial accounting tasks for Nolk, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Assume other duties as necessary to contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the financial operations.

Education and Experience 

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
    • CPA designation or pursuit of CPA an asset.
  • Experience in an e-commerce or manufacturing environment would be highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience with financial software and systems such as Netsuite, Avalara, ADP (or similar payroll software), and Shopify is advantageous.
  • Experience with cross border taxation and international tax regulations is an asset.
  • Experience in financial analysis, including cashflow planning, accruals, and financial evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, such as system integrations or financial audits.
  • Regulatory knowledge of US GAAP and/or ASPE.
  • Previous exposure to financial audit processes is beneficial.

  • Strong attention to detail is crucial for tasks like handling monthly bills, Accounts Payable tasks, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. 
  • Ability to analyze financial data, forecast cashflows, and develop effective monthly cashflow plans to facilitate timely bill payments and maintain financial stability.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll and sales tax regulations, along with the capability to accurately complete tax filings and ensure compliance, especially across multiple states.
  • Skilled in overseeing the integration of different financial systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the monthly financial closing process, including accruals and meticulous adjustments, resulting in accurate and comprehensive financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in performing thorough account reconciliations on various timeframes (monthly, quarterly, yearly), ensuring accuracy and accountability in financial records.
  • Proficiency in managing biweekly payroll processing, including adherence to schedules, accurate calculations, and compliance with payroll regulations.
  • Capability to manage benefit payment processing and associated reporting tasks accurately and within designated timeframes.
  • Expertise in developing and managing cashflow plans, ensuring adequate funds are available for bill payments and other financial obligations.
  • Effective communication skills with employees, clients, and auditors.

Work Environment - Hybrid (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in office)

While working remotely, you will need a quiet space that you can use to allow you to be present and focused during work hours. In addition to two days in the office per week, your position may require you to be physically in the office more often when projects or in person meetings are required. 

When working at the office, we operate under Good Manufacturing Practices which may at times require wearing safety glasses and closed toe shoes. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
