Description

The GBS Group, an engineering and technical consulting firm, is seeking aSenior Accountantto join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services contractor with a variety of contract types.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated accounting professional with a high level of comprehension. Ability to analyze detailed financial accounts, dig into ledger entries, follow steps back to determine errors, causes, and make corrections. Adhere to tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities, find solutions, and take ownership of work product. Help identify improvement opportunities in the accounting processes and expense management procedures.

This position involves a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, month-end close, as well as account reconciliations. The ideal candidate should understand accounting concepts for contract costs and revenues, subcontract invoices, and requirements for reimbursable expenses. This position will report to and work closely with the Controller.

Roles and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Research, evaluate, develop and recommend general financial policies and procedures and modifications to existing policies to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Prepare journal entries into the general ledger system by collecting necessary data, analyzing and/or allocating costs and preparing audit trail support for the journal entries.
  • Reconcile cash, accounts receivables, accounts payables, and other general ledger accounts. Ability to research variances and identify transaction details.
  • Maintain and post prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Correct differences between the subsidiary ledger balance and the general ledger.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial reports by analyzing trends, costs, revenues, and other financial commitments.
  • Track, review, and reconcile high volume employee expense reports for job-related travel. Ensuring documentation is compliant with contract requirements for reimbursement.
  • Review and record subcontractor invoices according to contract agreement terms.
  • Post foreign currency adjustments for accounts payable transactions.
  • Ensure sales and use tax is recorded correctly per contract and purchase order.
  • Additional duties include creating sales invoices, monitoring outstanding AR balances and following up with customers or project managers.

Candidates for this positionmustpossess the following professional experience and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive general accounting experience, preferably in Government Contracting.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and accounting/financial reporting software .
  • Microsoft Navision experience preferred
