IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant. As a Senior Accountant, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. The Senior Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and also work closely with other team members including the Controller, Assistant Controller, Manager of Financial Reporting and other key stakeholders of the Company across numerous functions including Supply Chain and Manufacturing, Engineering, IT and Human Resources, which will allow the individual to gain meaningful insight into a rapidly growing company. A successful candidate will be able to apply accounting knowledge, critical thinking and analytical skills to be a part of dynamic, first-class, highly saleable and efficient accounting team for a high-growth, high-tech company.

 

Responsibilities: 


  • Prepare, review and analyze accounts, journal entries and other transactions according to Company procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Prepare and review account reconciliations and associated financial analyses to ensure timely and accurate issuance of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements

  • Assist in the implementation of accounting policies and analyses to support the establishment of a manufacturing facility

  • Analyze accounts to develop insights and opportunities for improved information quality and automation, including the proactive development of new key reports

  • Assist in the processing of payroll, as well as the accurate recording and reconciliation of payroll expense 

  • Assist with the preparation and review of certain schedules for the Company’s corporate tax provision and returns

  • Perform Sarbanes-Oxley key controls in a timely manner

  • Develop and review required schedules to support the quarterly reviews and the annual audit with the Company’s external auditors

  • Collaborate across the finance team and other operational departments on cross-functional initiatives including partnering with FP&A on budget-to-actual analyses

  • Perform data testing and other procedures to assist with the implementation of new systems and technology

  • Design processes to make all procedures more efficient and accurate

  • Provide backup support for other positions within the department as needed

  • Support the accounting team in special projects as needed

 

You’d be a good fit with: 

 

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, with a concentration in accounting

  • In depth knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and concepts

  • 5 years of general ledger accounting experience including experience operating in a compliant internal control environment

  • CPA or actively pursuing certification

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines

  • Experience in performing payroll functions

  • High competency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to manage deadline requirements and multi-task projects

  • NetSuite experience preferred

  • Strong desire and ability to develop new skills quickly in a fast-paced, high volume environment to continuously improve processes

Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We have also recently announced our new manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, Boston and Toronto metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
