What’s brewing

As our Senior Accountant, you will primarily be responsible for the execution of our monthly close process, timely financial statement reporting, and technical accounting responsibilities. This position will play an active role in accounting research, internal control documentation, and business process improvement. Additional responsibilities include analysis of complex period-end closing activities, account reconciliations, preparing journal entries and analyzing account balances to determine completeness and accuracy of balances across a variety of accounting areas. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, learn new systems and processes easily, and be able to work in a fast-paced and growing business with conflicting deadlines.

Reporting to our Finance & Accounting Manager, this role will be critical in developing robust financial and management controls, helping to build scalable systems and enhance our existing processes as we continue to grow. We are looking for an individual that is analytical, organized, detail oriented and self-motivated, with excellent problem-solving skills and a robust ownership mindset. Strong communication skills are a must, as is the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

What you'll own
  • Prepare and ensure timely, accurate and complete GAAP compliant monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (Includes consolidation of UK subsidiary - knowledge of UK GAAP is essential).
  • Perform period-end closing of the general ledger including preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Perform ad-hoc research and analysis of information from various systems.
  • Research, calculate and document areas of significant judgments and estimates including emerging or complex accounting treatments.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support (i.e. reviewing invoices and vendor issues), oversee timely and accurate vendor and expense payment processing in compliance with contractual terms, organizational policies & procedures
  • Drive the development and maintenance of appropriate documentation for key accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls.
  • Liaise with the internal and external partners to support timely preparation of monthly and quarterly tax returns including: sales, use, property, income, payroll etc. in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proactively evaluate and implement improvements to processes and procedures where appropriate.
  • Research, propose and implement solutions in response to general accounting questions.
  • Support annual audit and quarterly review processes with external auditors.
Who you are
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Masters Degree / CPA preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in Accounting, ideally in Big 4 public accounting or a high-growth startup company
  • Deep technical accounting experience and a command of US & UK GAAP accounting principles and procedures
  • Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Attention to detail with a strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team, prioritize deliverables and manage time to meet required deadlines
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and other standard office suite software skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and QuickBooks is a plus
Benefits
  • Salary range $125,000 - $165,000
    • Blank Street, in good faith, believes that the posted salary range is accurate for this role in New York City at the time of posting. Our salary ranges are rooted in the desire to pay competitively relative to our organization size and industry, reflecting just one part of the total compensation package. Additional components include equity offering, healthcare benefits, paid time off and various work perks (commuter benefits, free coffee). Details will be discussed during the interview process. Blank Street may pay more or less than the posted range based on factors such as relevant experience and skills, qualifications and location, among others. This range may be modified in the future.
