Impact.  Our work makes a significant difference in students' lives. Independent testing data from public school districts across the country consistently show that students learn more in areas of personalized study with eSpark. One researcher from MIT, who evaluated an eSpark in Boston Public Schools, wrote:  “I find strong positive, significant effects of eSpark for both math and English Language Arts (ELA).  So the eSpark intervention, which is just 30 minutes a day, led to almost half the effect of a full year in a high performing charter school.  I view these as very impressive gains.  The findings made a substantial dent into the black-white achievement gap.” 

Growth.  In the last twelve months, more than 1.3 million students used eSpark, many of them for the first time. Our customer satisfaction (measured by net promoter score) has grown steadily and is now 76.  We’re on track to more than double our new bookings this year.

Pandemic. The 2020-2021 school year has been a time of unprecedented challenges for teachers, students, parents, and schools.

As Senior Accountant you’ll report to the CFO.

Job Mission

Assist in the preparation of financial reports, perform account reconciliations, be involved in the month-end closing process, and perform other accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP, specifically as they apply to the SaaS industry
• Software revenue recognition experience
• Proficiency in Excel and strong financial analysis skills
• Strong communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal
• Proven ability to work well in a dynamic and high growth environment 
• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees and comfortable being part of a fully remote team
• Familiarity with accounting software, preferably Quickbooks Online
• Strong technology and analytical skills
• Prior experience with M&A is a plus

Experience requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
• 3+ years industry experience
• Accounting work for SaaS companies
• CPA is a bonus

Key activities

• Own the month-end closing process, including preparing, reviewing, and posting journal entries
• Maintain and reconciling various schedules such as for deferred revenue and prepaid expenses 
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts
• Responsible for vendor registration process and processing of banking transactions
• Manage billing and collections activities
• Review accounts payable processing, credit card activity review, expense report processing
• Prepare monthly financial analysis and reports for our lenders and equity investors 
• Contribute to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures
• Provide suggestions and input on changes to improve the efficiency of various processes
• Assist with annual audit and tax preparations
• Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
• Other projects as assigned
