Senior Accountant

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, we are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team at Misfits Market+Imperfect Foods. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions, including duties associated with the monthly financial close, maintaining a strong internal control environment, assisting with financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and additional accounting functions as required by the organization. This position requires excellent analytical skills, a penchant for efficiency and accuracy, and the ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  

You'll work cross-functionally and collaborate with key Finance business partners (Operations, IT, Merchandising, Warehouses, FP&A, etc.) to develop and/or refine processes while ensuring adherence to accounting policies and internal controls. This role can be remote and will support all facets of the combined company.

You will:

• Ensuring the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of month end close activities, including journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and roll-forwards.
• Researching variances, determining root causes, and proposing recommendations for adjustments
• Entering journal entries, ensuring that there is proper backup to support the entry
• Researching ways of streamlining and standardizing processes to support the accounting function, as well as cross-functionally. This includes identifying ways to automate processes and formalize best practices
• Taking ownership of sales and use tax, property tax, and business tax filing reconciliations and reviews
• Taking ownership of various parts of annual audit requests to complete timely. Working with the audit team to respond to any follow up inquiries.
• Assisting with the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and related footnote disclosures
• Assisting  with system upgrades/implementations and data validation analyses
• Ad-Hoc reporting and analytical support
• Other accounting duties as assigned

You are:

• B.S. Degree in Finance / Accounting
• CPA preferred
• 2–4  years corporate accounting experience (fast-paced/public company)
• Public accounting experience a plus
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX Compliance
• Experience with month/quarter/year-end close, including preparing reconciliations, roll-forwards, tracking and posting adjusting journal entries, etc.
• Experience working with audit team to facilitate audit requests/has strong understanding of nature of audit process
• Experience with drafting, reviewing, and/or preparing support for annual audit, including understanding of the financial statements and related footnote disclosures
• NetSuite a plus
• Advanced Excel skills
• Demonstrated ability to work develop/maintain strong cross-functional relationships
• Ability to multi-task and take on a large volume of work in a high growth environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
