Senior Accountant

Wausau Window and Wall Systems

Apogee Enterprises, Inc (NASDAQ: APOG www.apog.com) is looking senior accountant to join our Window and Wall Systems business, which includes the brands of Wausau Window and Wall Systems and EFCO.

As a Senior Accountant you have accounting experience and a strong knowledge of US GAAP, debits and credits, journal entries, and "closing the books." You understand risk and controls in a public company SOX environment, and how to ensure that our controls over financial reporting are effective. You find continuous improvements in our record-to-report processes, to provide timely and accurate financial reporting to local management and the Parent Company. You're comfortable partnering with colleagues from other departments, and you are willing to challenge "the way we've always done it."

The successful senior accountant will use their skills in a broad range of accounting and controllership related assignments. This will require collaboration with other functions, corporate teams, and sister companies to prioritize and perform accounting tasks including journal entries, significant accounting estimates, balance sheet reconciliations, SOX compliance and financial statement analysis. This role will help define the people, process, and technology needs across multiple business locations to design (or re-design) and standardize our processes and procedures and drive continuous improvement.

POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting processes for multiple locations

• Analyze and record business transactions for multiple locations, for example:
  • revenue recognition
  • Intercompany transactions and transactions to/from parent
  • Record journal entries and complete month end tasks in a variety of accounting systems
• Support SOX compliance/audit efforts in area(s) of responsibility, such as revenue recognition
• Provide coaching to, and review the work of others for quality and compliance with GAAP and policies
• Crosstrain to provide bench-strength and backup with others on the team

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA is a plus
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, depending on roles
• Some experience with technical accounting (e.g.: 606 Revenue, 842 Leases, Fair Value) preferred
• Experience with construction, project, or other "percentage of completion" revenue preferred
• Experience with SOX at public company or accounting firm preferred
• Position also requires strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to influence others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Apogee has a "hybrid" model for physical/remote work, with flexibility, and an expectation to be in the office at least 1-2 days per week

The ability to travel for collaboration, or participation in process-improvement and Company-wide events may be required, but will be infrequent.
