Senior Accountant
Job Description
The Senior Accountant will support the Accounting Manager and Accounting Director by providing accounting and financial reporting for the APA Divisions and providing support, when necessary, for APA, two rental properties (the LLCs), and APA's affiliated 501(c)(6).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Bachelor's in accounting or Finance, or Bachelors in another business discipline. Certified Public Accountant is a plus.
Experience: 5+ years of accounting at mid-level or 3-5 years in the public accounting field is required.
Required: Nonprofit accounting knowledge and in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Understanding of accounting procedures; and Demonstrated systems knowledge as described below. Demonstrated financial statement preparation knowledge preferred. Experience with agile methodologies a plus.
Must be organized, proactive, flexible, and able to set priorities. Must be able to work independently and use critical thinking skills. Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention-to-detail, verbal and written communication skills, an innovative mindset to improve processes, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and across departments. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of accounting principles to include bank and general ledger account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Must have experience/knowledge using accounting software. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central a plus. Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables are a must. Familiarity with Jet Reports a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Accountant will be accountable for ensuring all monthly and year end tasks are completed timely, by self or others, and will coordinate with other Finance staff as appropriate; maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts including bank and investment accounts and resolve any discrepancies; prepare necessary journal entries and/or review journal entries prepared by Staff Accountants; prepare monthly reports in the financial system and review for accuracy; respond to audit requests; assist with IRS Form 990 preparation; review workpapers and financial statements from third party LLC accountants and verify for accuracy and/or answer questions from Staff Accountants; respond to internal or external requests for information. Participate in and/or lead various projects to improve processes and procedures. Assist with system related projects and testing as needed.
