Bellwether Asset Management, Inc. (“BWAM”) is a privately held firm located in Los Angeles, CA, specializing in the management, analysis and reporting of over $21 billion of AUM across a wide range of real-estate related assets and corporate platforms in the United States, Europe and Asia.
About the Job
As a Senior Account at BWAM, you will help manage high-level accounting operations for our client’s real estate portfolios. This includes evaluating existing procedures and processes and innovating new and improved methods of reconciliations, reports, analyses, and budgeting. Your experience has prepared you to perform initial reviews of relevant investment agreements, understanding what information must be included in investor records. This role is an exiting opportunity to lead transition meetings for each new asset or financing, liaising between the accounting and deal teams.
Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge in accounting, specifically within financial services and commercial real estate. This includes experience with REIT compliance, 10-K/Q reporting, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Successful candidates also regularly build relationships both internally and externally. They hold themselves and others to high standards of success.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and analyze budgets, prepare periodic reports that compare budget to actual
- Update and maintain investor records for the entire portfolio of investments
- Prepare and review capital activity for capital calls and distributions
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Make informed recommendations to improve the efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes
- Lead transition meetings between deal teams and accounting to effectively onboard each new asset or financing
- Conduct technical accounting research ensuring all internal accounting standards are current
- Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and internal partners
Qualifications
BWAM seeks to hire entrepreneurial individuals who are highly motivated, mature and intelligent, with demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. The successful candidate should have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience; Big 4 public accounting experience preferred
- Investment accounting experience is highly desirable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; client facing experience preferred
- Highly proficient in business related software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
- Experience in MRI, Netsuite, or similar accounting system
- Ability to read and analyze investment and lease agreements
- Strong analytical skills and detailed oriented
- Proven ability to initiate ideas and implement new processes
- Bachelor’s degree required

- Active Asset Management Support: The team works closely with Acquisition Teams to help monitor all strategic and joint-venture operating partners on a day-to-day basis. Responsibilities include weekly leasing calls, monthly operations reviews, annual budget and business plan reviews and financial analysis; and
- Investment- and Fund-level Reforecasting: BWAM is responsible for creating proprietary investment-level valuation models for the portfolio to enhance our ability to reforecast investment-and fund-level performance on a routine basis.
