Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented senior accountant who can manage the accounting process related to payroll, intercompany, royalties, third party revenue and other system-related transactions. Responsibilities include processing journal entries, completing month end close, audit support, executing internal controls and completing timely account reconciliations, reviews, and analysis. This role will have Bluestem Brands responsibility working with both the Fingerhut and Orchard business divisions.

This role is based out of our Eden Prairie, MN head office within our hybrid environment that has team members come into the office 2-3 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Area of Responsibility Within Accounting Department:

  • Labor & Payroll Accounting
  • Intercompany transactions
  • Third party AR and Revenue
  • Trademark Royalties
  • System recons
  • Month end financial reporting tie outs

Detailed list of actions for each area of responsibility:

  • Coordinate activities within the month end close process to include maintaining a detailed checklist on SharePoint, communicating with business partners, and proactively troubleshooting issues as they arise throughout the close.
  • Improve the close process by working with various departments to identify efficiencies.
  • Export data from sub-systems, calculate, design, and validate journal entries.
  • Upload journal entries into Oracle and Infinium accounting systems, including reviewing for accuracy, and providing sufficient detailed support.
  • Become expert in applicable applications with ability to troubleshoot or design new corporate strategies.
  • Maintain detailed excel models using actuals, estimates and assumptions while keeping current on non-standard events to anticipate proper accounting treatment, eventually designing new models.
  • Manage accruals and allocations with expectation of changing methodology periodically.
  • Complete timely account reconciliations each month, including detailed variance explanations of specific accounts. Research reconciling items, follow account reconciliation policy closely and partner with business to identify process improvements.
  • Coordinate requested items for internal and external audits.
  • Continue to develop process improvements around current processes.
  • Support various business partners when questions arise. Work closely with HR and Payroll Departments.
  • Maintain documentation throughout year as changes occur frequently.
  • Develop controls to improve integrity of accounting and related reporting.
  • Assist with monthly variance explanations.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Advanced Excel skills: (Pivot tables, embedded "if/then" statements, macros)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public accounting experience
  • Knowledge of UKG (Back office, Time tracking, payroll processing, BI, Standard Reports, Labor allocations or GL exports)
  • Experience with Payroll processing/accounting
  • Infinium experience
  • Oracle experience
  • Hyperion Essbase experience
  • Knowledge of intercompany transactions
