Senior Accounting Manager

Reports to: Sr. Corporate Controller Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Manager who possesses a remarkable sense of ownership and an unwavering commitment to meeting deadlines. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of accounting principles, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of effectively managing accounting teams. As a Senior Accounting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in a multitude of accounting and payroll activities such as general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight, payroll approval, monthly financial reporting and year-end audits. You are expected to develop and apply the Company’s accounting policies and make sound judgments relating to expense accruals, prepaid and fixed assets capitalization. Additionally, s/he participates in process improvement projects and assists with ad hoc projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
- Manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Lead the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
- Oversee accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely issuance of invoices and collections.
- Perform monthly financial analysis, including variance analysis and trend analysis to provide management with business insight.
- Review and approve payroll submissions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive payroll information, ensuring data security and privacy compliance.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate annual audits and tax filings.
- Ensure state and local tax compliance by monitoring and making required filings on a timely basis.
- Review
- Assist in the design, implementation and execution of internal controls.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, optimize efficiencies, and drive business objectives.
- Assist with or lead system implementations and other ad hoc project initiatives.
- Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, Fractyl’s policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
- Bring a “can do” spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned.
Education or Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; higher education and CPA preferred.
Professional Work Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- System implementation experience preferred.
- Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements.
- Excellent computer skills (i.e., MS Office Suite); Experience with MS D365 and ADP Workforce Now preferred.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical agility.
- Prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple assignments simultaneously, and consistently delivering high-quality results within established timeframes.
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
