This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Advisor, Passenger Rail Operations for our Dallas, TX office. The following locations will also be considered: New York; Philadelphia; or out of any mutually agreed upon WSP USA office.

Be involved in projects with our Transit and Rail Operations Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Apply high-level transit and rail engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Perform professional transit and rail project management consulting and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, transportation corridors, and operations to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality or end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, a modern mobility infrastructure, and implementing future-ready solutions with transit and rail engineering design standards.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of managers, advisors, engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Coordinate, review and approve infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address engineering, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation activities.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner
  • Collaborate with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
  • Remain current in latest transit and rail engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Planning, Policy, Computer Science, or a related degree, or a combination of education and/or relevant experience to meet the job requirements.
  • 7+ years' experience with rail operations, including rail operating rules and operating practices and rail start-ups and extensions.
  • Experience within transit and rail engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements for rail operations, especially as they relate to new rail start-ups or line extensions.
  • Proficiency in office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of FRA, FTA, CPUC, AREMA, and other rail regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Compensation and Benefits:

WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career.

Expected Salary: $79,100 - $182,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
