We are seeking a senior scientist who will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and running our Mass Spectrometry workflows in Analytical Development. This scientist will play a key role in designing and executing MS methods for viral vector-based therapies. S/he will collaborate with other scientists to implement MS methods for AAV gene therapy product characterization and optimization of AAV platforms.
The scientist will:
- Develop and qualify protein characterization (intact mass, peptide mapping, post-translation modification analysis, sequent variant analysis) workflows for product characterization for pre-clinical and early clinical programs.
- Conduct experiments to support process development and platform development
- Be responsible for timely execution of experiments and interpretation of data
- Keep accurate, clear, and updated notebooks and records
- Help to maintain and troubleshoot MS and related equipment
- Provide input on design of new assays in Analytical Development and help to troubleshoot experiments
- Author and review technical reports and SOPs
- Collaborate with others within Research and Technology to support the pipeline progression.

Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in a relevant scientific discipline such as biological sciences, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry. Two to three years relevant biotech or pharmaceutical company experience required. Post-doctoral experience will be taken into consideration. Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline with at least 3-5 years of related experience within an established biotech or pharmaceutical company.
Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
- Expertise with sample preparations for protein analysis by LC-MS.
- Expertise with enzymatic digests of proteins for peptide analysis by LC-MS.
- Expertise in liquid chromatography separations of proteins and peptides.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with MS technologies (e.g., Q-TOF, Orbitrap, etc.) and their related system software (e.g., MassHunter, XCalibur)
- Hands-on experience with protein characterization data analysis applications (e.g., BioConfirm, ProteinMetrics Byos/Byosphere, etc.)
- Track record of assessing and implementing strategies to optimize protein identification and characterization workflows.
- Ability to work independently and assume ownership of experiments to drive results with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills needed in order to design assays and experiments to answer complex analytical challenges
- Must be able to work in a collaborative manner in a team-based environment
- May provide guidance to more junior team members
- Familiarity with electrophoresis of proteins, proteomics workflows is a plus.
