Senior Analytics Engineer

Your Opportunity

Scion is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to join our Business Intelligence team. The mission of the BI team is to deliver well-defined, transformed, and tested datasets that allow business users to build reports in a self-service manner while getting reliable and consistent results. This position is responsible for the entire data stack, but with a focus on writing complex data transformations in SQL, orchestrating models with dbt, and building reports on top of a clean data layer within Looker.

Your Responsibilities

• Builds and maintains datasets that provide key insights at all levels of the business and allows leadership to monitor critical functions in a data driven manner
• Owns and maintains all analytic data models sourced from various production systems in the data warehouse
• Writes production-quality data transformations with an eye towards performance, maintainability, and scalability
• Builds business facing dashboards and applications that enable self-service analytics
• Develops and maintains ELT processes
• Manages projects from inception to production deployment
• Provides cutting edge approaches to keep pace with Scion's growing data initiatives
• Designs and optimizes SQL queries and cloud-based data warehouse architecture to improve performance and minimize cost
• Creates and maintains technical documentation
• Recommends and implements process improvements and best practices

What We Require

• Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience working with ELT/ETL pipelines, data transformation, and modeling
• Team focused, highly self-motivated, and attentive to detail
• BS/MS in computer science, mathematics, economics, statistics, engineering, or equivalent analytical experience
• Passion to understand the business, frame problems, and deliver practical solutions in short timeframes
• Depth of experience with SQL and relational databases
• Desire to understand and follow best practices for ELT, data-warehousing, and modeling
• Experience with Snowflake or other cloud platforms serving as a production data warehouse
• Experience with reporting, dashboarding, and analytics platforms (e.g. Looker, PowerBI, Hex)
• Experience with engineering best practices and version control tools (e.g. Git, Github, Bitbucket)
• Experience with Python
• Experience working with semi-structured data types such as JSON and XML

Operational Details

· Job location is based at Scion’s Chicago corporate headquarters.

· Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours.
