Senior Android Developer (Global Expansion)

The Global Expansion tribe is a cross-functional team of 40+ talented people that owns the process of bringing SumUp to new markets. The Expansion Platform & Experiences (EP&E) is one of the squads in the tribe with the mission of accelerating SumUp’s success by reducing time to market and adapting our products to provide our merchants the right experiences within their local context.

The SumUp app is one of the primary tools used by our merchants. When we enter a new region, we contribute with other teams implementing new features, updating translations, adapting user interfaces and preparing the app to run on different types of devices. 

We are looking for an experienced Mobile Engineer to contribute to the Expansion Platform & Experiences squad in this mission. You will work primarily on the Android platform as a mobile engineer, adding new features and making our app run smoothly on devices with custom Android builds. We will also help you ramp-up in your iOS skills, collaborating with other teams with code reviews, architecture discussion and with the implementation of small features. As a part of the company’s Mobile Chapter, you will learn from others and share your knowledge.

What you’ll do

• Work as part of a cross-functional squad that is responsible for the expansion of SumUp into new markets
• Contribute to the launch of SumUp in these markets by adapting our Super App to meet the regulatory requirements for financial institutions in new countries/regions
• Help with the automated localisation for both mobile Apps, including adapting the UI to support other languages (right-to-left, etc)
• Develop new features in our Super App that offer a better experience to our merchants and ensure better product-market fit
• Develop and maintain a new build of our app to run on third-party Android-powered devices

You’ll be great for this role if

• You have extensive experience in Android development (Kotlin) and are able to work with a high degree of autonomy
• You have an interest in learning to develop features for our iOS application or already have some experience with Swift
• Modularised architecture is one of your strength areas
• It excites you to collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders, building bridges across the organisation
